With the picture of roofing works in Gargalianoi, a town called the balcony of Messinia due to its impressive location on a tall hill, I grab the opportunity to remember Lewis Hine, a great man and a great photographer who so actively employed his art as a tool for social change and reform.
Lewis Hine is famous for the iconic photographs of the constraction of the Empire State building in 1930, time of great depression, when workers were willing to take up any job regardless of safety issues. His documentary photography, from 1908 and on, of child labor conditions in the United States have been a great influence in changing laws related to child labor (for related video press here) . He died forgotten and in poverty.
